He was the eldest of a family of 7 children, and his father was a wealthy cloth merchant. He attended school at the canons' school in Assisi and left at the age of 14 to join the merchant guild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Gifted with real professional skills, he was known for his negotiating abilities. His youth was tumultuous, and he sought to adopt a chivalrous lifestyle, as evidenced by his extravagant spending. He also harbored ambitions of joining the city's armed cavalry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">However, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Francis_of_Assisi\" target=\"_self\">Francis<\/a> gradually abandoned his life of abundance and revelry and underwent a transformation focused on serving the poorest. His inner transformation involved moments of prayer and meditation in seclusion in a cave. The encounter with lepers was a turning point in his change of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Filled with mercy, he becomes open to the suffering of others. Very close to nature, Francis sees the presence of God in every flower, every drop of water, and every animal.
