Our mission is ambitious: to accompany our members so that they become saints in their daily activities and radiate divine joy to families and communities in North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To achieve this, we offer boys and girls from 6 to 24 years old the opportunity to experience the explorers adventure through camping, games, cooking, outdoor life, and service to others, while cultivating a deep sense of human fraternity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Renewal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Since his early years, Canadian Paul Richi has been involved in scouting within the organization Scouts Canada. Over time, Scouts Canada adopted a more secular pedagogy that moved away from the faith and values dear to Paul Richi. Thus, in July 1999, with a few others, Paul left the most established movement in Canada. Farewell to uniforms, camping equipment, canoes... everything! \n

\nStarting from scratch, they simply hoped to offer a better program to their sons.\nWithout means, Paul reached out to his community. Within three months, donations poured in, allowing them to purchase uniforms, camping equipment, and spread the word about the nascent movement.\n

\nIn September 1999, Paul joined a Quebec association: the Association of Baden-Powell Scouts (AEBP), which was part of the International Union of Guides and Scouts of Europe<\/a> (UIGSE) at the time. He then took the name \"Baden-Powell Scouts\" for his group.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A New Identity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The new movement gained momentum but faced a threat in spring 2000 from the lawyers of Scouts Canada. The issue at hand was the name of educational programs. After careful consideration and to avoid confrontation, Paul changed the name of his movement to \"Baden-Powell Explorers.\" The educational programs were also renamed: Otters, Timber Wolves, Explorers, and Wayfarers..\n

Encounter with UIGSE-FSE<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 2002, the World Youth Days (WYD) was presided over by St. John Paul II in Toronto and attracted Christians from around the world. Italian Rovers who were members of the FSE<\/a> contacted Paul to find accommodation and transportation solutions.\n

\nThis provided an opportunity to get to know the international scouting fraternity of the FSE<\/a> more closely. Above all, it gave Paul an insight into growth opportunities for the Baden-Powell Explorers movement.\n

\nFor Easter 2005, Paul took his group on a pilgrimage to Rome, Italy. It was a journey of great spiritual and social richness that motivated the Baden-Powell Explorers group to further growth. During this visit, an inaugural meeting took place between the Baden-Powell Explorers group and the FSE.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Closer ties with UIGSE-FSE<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Similar to Scouts Canada, the AEBP adopted a more secular approach to the application of the scouting method and educational programs, and in June 2007, they left the UIGSE to become an independent movement.\n

\nHowever, Paul wished to remain within the framework of the UIGSE-FSE. He then flew to France in August of the same year to discuss the future of the Baden-Powell Explorers group within the FSE.\n

\nAfter three days of discussions with the Federal Commissioner of the FSE, Paul obtained the rights to implement the FSE program in North-America. Paul then changed the name of his movement to the \"Federation of North-American Explorers\" (FNE Explorers).\n

\nWhy choose to stay with the UIGSE-FSE? Simply because spirituality and Christ are at the core of the method and educational programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Early Years and Their Challenges<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Although the FSE was flourishing in Europe, in 2007, the F.N.E. was virtually unknown in the Catholic communities of North America. Starting a movement is a challenge, especially when trying to align with an established organization like the FSE.\n

\nPerceived as just another youth movement, the F.N.E. struggled to retain its members.\n

\nAnother major challenge to overcome was understanding the ins and outs of the FSE method. It was during a summer camp when a FSE leader was invited that everything fell into place. Through dynamic training, the Explorers program was transformed, allowing the F.N.E. to improve all its educational programs. It was a laborious but beneficial process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

And There Were Two...!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In November 2011, a group of parents from New Jersey in the United States heard about the F.N.E. movement. They created a second group! Then came a third group, and more after that. In 2024, the F.N.E. has about 33 groups in North America with 2.500 members.\n

\nUnity is strength, and that's why F.N.E. groups share knowledge and experiences with one another, and camp together to progress as a whole. Simultaneously, the F.N.E. maintains its relationship with the FSE to benefit from advice, training, and educational documentation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Encounter with the International Scouting Fraternity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

An important step in the growth of the F.N.E.: 60 Scouts and Guides traveled to Normandy to participate in Eurojam 2014. They joined 10.000 scouting brothers and sisters from 20 countries. Despite language, friendship and brotherhood was immediate.\n

\nIn 2018, a second major milestone was reached. A large gathering in Florida brought together members from Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This was an opportunity to tangibly measure the growth of the F.N.E.\n

\nThen it was the turn of the girl Timber Wolves to embark on a pilgrimage to Lourdes to meet their French \"Louvettes\" sisters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The future<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The future of the F.N.E. looks promising. Although it can sometimes be challenging to achieve unanimity within communities, school environments, or the general public, the F.N.E. remains optimistic. For our youth (not forgetting the leaders and parents), the F.N.E. offers a unique experience centered around faith in God and service.\n
